April 29th, 2013

I'm staying in Eagle Pass!! We got transfer calls last night and both my companions and I are staying in Eagle Pass! (so my address is still the same) But I'm so thankful to be staying. I LOVE it here. I LOVE the people. I got made fun of at dinner yesterday at the Arana's home. They are members and are super strong in the church. Their family makes up 1/3 of the spanish branch. But I didn't know how to eat the food that Hermana Arana gave us. It was a bowl of soup with a drumstick in it. Then she had lettuce on the side and hot sauce. Haha both my companions and I were confused.. then Mercedes, their 14 year old daughter, said "what's wrong with you.. eat it right" haha then she had to show me how they eat it.. that probably made no sense but it was a funny experience. I am teaching Mercedes how to play the piano and she's teaching me how to speak spanish. I figured that was a fair trade.
We have been blessed with so many tender mercies this week! Appointment after appoinment cancels, but the Lord always places another person in our path that is ready for the Gospel. We met a lady named Blanca yesterday who let us in and gave us some water. We started teaching her the restoration and it was almost too good to be true. Everything we said made sense to her and when we asked what it meant to her, that Joseph Smith saw God and His Son Jesus Christ, she said "it means everything. this is what i've been looking for" wow. the spirit was SO strong. she accepted a baptismal invitation and has a date set for may 25th!
Last night we had the Montejano girls baptism. Dana and Dania. It was beautiful! I loved being able to witness the change in not only their lives, but the lives of their parents. I can't explain the feelings I felt last night. To see two young girls make the decision to be baptized. And to have their dad, who had been in active for over 12 years, come back to activity and be worthy to baptize them .. wow. It made me so thankful for this Gospel. It made me realize even more, the role of the little things like going to church, reading the scriptures, praying, serving others, etc. All those things are necessary and just as important as the other. Together they build a strong foundation and allow us to build our testimonies and be truly converted. We read Converted to the Lord by David A Bednar yesterday in relief society. I recommend each of you to read it. It's what we as members, and non members, need to do.. be converted. each and every day. It's a great thing to have a testimony. But we must be converted to the Lord and His Gospel. I love this Gospel with all my heart. I am so thankful that I can be an instrument in the Lord's hands to bring His children unto Him. The church is true! I pray for you all each night. Thank you for everything :)
Love,
Hermana Egbert
